The whole concept of a national park is the idea of preserving unique landscapes for ourselves and generations to come. And even beyond that, making them accessible for people to experience.
At a total area of 1,856 km², Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest national park in the Alps, the setting for a unique natural and cultural landscape. Hohe Tauern National Park extends from 1,000 m in elevation up to 3,798 meters above sea level at the summit of the Grossglockner. A hike from the valley up to the glacier-topped peaks is like a journey into the Arctic - through all the climate zones between Central Europe and the polar reaches.
Which means that, in summer especially, our high-alpine regions with peaks over 3,000 m, glaciers, glacial streams, waterfalls, tarns, alpine meadows and centuries-old hill farms, are a truly unforgettable experience.
